Journal Entry - Day 147 After Outbreak
The rain's been coming down for two days straight, turning every street into a slick, muddy mess. My boots are soaked through, and I can't remember the last time my hands were warm.
I was scavenging through the outskirts of a collapsed suburb today--most of the houses had already been picked clean. The air smelled of mold and old fire. Then I found it.
A 1911. Not just any beat-up sidearm, either--this one's been cared for. Slide smooth, no rust, well-oiled. The grip's a strange honeycomb gold--flashy for a world where nothing shines anymore--but solid in the hand. And the best part? A Xentra silencer, bright orange like it was meant for training or marking... but functional. Whoever had it must've known how to keep it in shape, because the barrel's clean and the trigger's crisp.

I almost walked past the house it was in. The front door had been kicked in long ago. I was about to leave when I spotted a faint glint under a pile of clothes in the corner. The pistol was wrapped in an old military jacket. Alongside it--two loaded mags. Jackpot.
The weight of it in my hand feels... right. Balanced. Comforting. My rifle's been running low on ammo, and this gives me options. Quiet options.

I don't know who it belonged to, but I'll put it to good use. And if they're out there somewhere maybe they'll see it in my hands and know it didn't end up in the wrong ones.
End entry.
